It’s a time for us all to look back at the last twelve months and think about the high points, the low points, and, well, we mostly forget the stuff in between. And because everyone is thinking about it, media outlets start writing about it. People wanna know. What were the best books this year? What were the best covers? What made an impression?
I like your description of Fleabag. What colors, what composition. I agree with your take on their struggles to find their "true selves". But of course, as with any good narration, I sit solidly with the main character. But man, I love how the tension gets drawn, and textured. I thought season two was award-winning. It reminded me of Aziz Anasari's second season of "Master...", just complete beauty and heartbreak. I knew by the last episode she was off to new projects and probably wouldn't return to Fleabag three. Her turn to the camera as she walks away was, to me, a type of post-modern dramatic irony... blew me away.
Hope you get to read Ten Thousand Doors. It was one of the best things about 2019.
